iPhone 17 Lineup What We Know So Far

Apple has been consistent with its design philosophy, but new reports suggest that the iPhone 17 lineup, set to launch in the fall of 2025, will feature some significant changes. From a new model that replaces the existing Plus variant to a smaller Dynamic Island, these rumored updates could make the iPhone 17 a noteworthy evolution. Here’s what we know so far based on the latest information from industry analysts.

The iPhone 17 Family

Introducing the iPhone 17 Slim

One of the most intriguing changes in the upcoming iPhone lineup is the addition of a new model, the “iPhone 17 Slim,” which will replace the current iPhone Plus variant. This model is expected to feature a 6.6-inch display, placing it just above the base iPhone 17 in terms of size, yet offering a sleeker, thinner design. The Slim model could be a compelling choice for those who desire a larger screen in a more compact form factor.

Updated Screen Sizes and Design Changes

According to Jeff Pu, an analyst from Haitong International Securities, the iPhone 17 lineup will have the following screen sizes:

  • iPhone 17: 6.1-inch display
  • iPhone 17 Slim: 6.6-inch display
  • iPhone 17 Pro: 6.3-inch display
  • iPhone 17 Pro Max: 6.9-inch display

Pu also notes that the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Slim, and iPhone 17 Pro will feature an aluminum build with a more complex design, while the iPhone 17 Pro Max will retain its titanium chassis. This premium material, introduced with the iPhone 15 Pro models, adds a touch of luxury and durability to Apple’s high-end devices.

Smaller Dynamic Island and “Metalens” Technology

The iPhone 17 Pro Max is expected to feature a smaller Dynamic Island, thanks to the introduction of “metalens” technology for the proximity sensor. This advancement could allow Apple to reduce the size of the Face ID sensor, leading to a more streamlined display. The other models in the iPhone 17 lineup are anticipated to retain the current design of the Dynamic Island.

Camera Upgrades and Performance Specs

All four models in the iPhone 17 series are rumored to come with a 24MP front-facing camera, a substantial upgrade from the 12MP FaceTime cameras found in the iPhone 15 lineup. This improvement could result in better selfie quality and enhanced FaceTime experiences.

In terms of performance, the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Slim will reportedly be equipped with 8GB of RAM and powered by either the A18 or A19 chipset. The iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max, on the other hand, are expected to offer 12GB of RAM and feature the A19 Pro processor. This bifurcation in RAM could provide a noticeable difference in performance between the standard and Pro models.

While these reports are based on speculation and should be taken with a grain of salt, Jeff Pu has a reputable track record, making these rumors more credible. The introduction of the iPhone 17 Slim, combined with a smaller Dynamic Island, upgraded front-facing cameras, and powerful chipsets, could make the iPhone 17 lineup a significant step forward for Apple. As always, stay tuned for more updates as we get closer to the 2025 launch.
